These are dynamic times and The Art Center (TAC) Highland Park Galleries are making a change. Our new exhibition, Of Time & Place, explores the kind of fluidity as a result of COVID-19, which has distorted our perspectives and shaken our foundation. TAC Galleries are looking to explore how the pandemic has changed our perspectives of how we pass time, where we quarantine, and with whom we create bubbles of contact. We have adjusted the galleries to adhere to spacial restrictions and for this exhibit, we are open to including work that defies the confines of our usual gallery places, including outdoor works and installations. The exhibit will also have a virtual component.
Work from Aaron Wilder's Details project is included in the exhibition. Inspired by the Evidence collaboration between Larry Sultan and Mike Mandel as well as Sol LeWitt's PhotoGrids, Details is a series of zoomed in photographs of minutiae in the cityscape. It is an exploration of marks, patterns, and signs of weathering. These are details of human impact and manipulation cut off from context to emphasize the aesthetics of wear and tear that typically go unnoticed in our daily lives. In addition to individual photographs, Details also explores levels of granularity and the limitations of rendering minute details of details as visible through dissecting each image into 121 individual sub-photographs printed as Instax prints.
